[Skywood × Somaé] The forest's individuality, in your kitchen atelier.

This piece, born from a collaboration with 'Skywood,' a sawmill in Shimokitayama Village, Nara Prefecture, which utilizes every aspect of wood, highlights the rich grain nurtured by Japanese forests.

Each piece has a "one-of-a-kind" expression, with every wood type, grain, and natural contour being different. We hope you will look forward to the "once-in-a-lifetime encounter" of welcoming a piece with a unique grain and contour into your own atelier.

Somaé boards feature "domestic natural wood" grown in the forests of Japan, with its original shape and grain taking center stage.

We hope you will experience the joy of discovering the wood's expression, which we cherish daily, through this single piece.

A single knife began our connection with the forest

Skywood, a lumber and wood processing company in Shimokitayama Village, Nara Prefecture.

Our connection with Skywood began when the Honda family, who run the company, started using FEDECA's children's knives.

Visiting Shimokitayama Village, we were deeply impressed by their craftsmanship, which embraces the unique shapes and grains of each piece of wood as "individual characteristics" rather than flaws.

Skywood has transformed the unique qualities of domestic natural wood into beautiful, functional pieces that are easy to use every day and grace any kitchen, all while preserving their natural contours.

Bringing the time spent growing in the forest into your daily kitchen.
This cutting board is a piece born from a long-standing connection.

A "finger hold" born from functionality

Boards with vertical edges are hard to lift.
To solve this small everyday stress, we've added a gentle slope to the edge.

Your finger slides in smoothly, allowing you to lift it lightly.

Transfer chopped ingredients directly to a pot or frying pan.
From kitchen to table.
Daily movements become a little smoother.

Brass accents: where nature and metal resonate

The organic lines of the wood are accentuated by a "brass brand plate."
The quiet luster of the metal, combined with the soft texture of natural wood, brings a dignified atmosphere to your kitchen and dining table.

Like wood, brass is a material whose color deepens with time, developing an antique-like patina. Experience the joy of aging together in your hands.

As an "easel" for your atelier. Brass board stand (sold separately)

Even when not in use, you'll want to admire its beautiful wood grain.
To fulfill this desire, we offer a dedicated brass board stand.

By matching the material of the cutting board's brass plate,
the presence of the board when displayed in the kitchen is further enhanced.

Furthermore, storing it upright ensures good ventilation,
a functional benefit that helps keep the board clean.

Enjoy it with your board as a "display storage" to appreciate the beautiful wood grain.

Ceramic coating that preserves the wood's natural breathability

Uses an inorganic ceramic and glass-based coating that complies with food hygiene laws.
By penetrating the wood fibers, it preserves the rich texture of natural wood,
while achieving excellent water-repellency, oil-repellency, and stain resistance.

"The time to cherish tools," something Somaé values.
When the luster subsides, try applying linseed oil or walnut oil (drying oil) during your weekend.

With each maintenance, its expression deepens,
and it becomes a tool that will stay with you for a long time.

To ensure long-lasting use

Basic care: Wash with mild detergent and a sponge using cold or lukewarm water, wipe off excess water, and allow to dry.

Things to avoid: Do not soak for long periods or use a dishwasher, as this may cause deterioration of the coating or warping.

Self-maintenance: If the luster or water repellency weakens, apply a drying oil (such as perilla, linseed, or walnut oil) all over, wipe thoroughly, and allow to dry for at least 24 hours.

*Caution: Cloths wiped with drying oil may spontaneously combust if left unattended. Always immerse in water before disposal after use.

Please check before purchasing

This product is made prioritizing the natural shape and expression of the wood.

Size: Based on S (A5), M (B5), and L (A4) sizes, but the contours vary from piece to piece.

Appearance: As each item is unique, the grain and contours will not be exactly the same as in the photos.

The presence of knots, variations in color, and natural lines.
These differences are also part of the individuality of domestic natural wood.

We select the most beautiful pieces possible,
and deliver a board worthy of Somaé's tools.

*For resinous woods like cedar grain, oil may exude and adhere to the surface even after coating, but this does not affect quality. Please wipe it off with a cloth before use.
