Care Instructions
We've compiled basic care instructions for each material and product.
So that the more you use it, the more attached you become.
Somaé tools are not a one-time purchase. When the blade loses its sharpness, when you want to adjust the handle, or when repairs are needed, we will do our best to help you continue using them for a long time.
Handling Precautions
-
Dry thoroughly, leaving no moisture behind
After use, remove any moisture or dirt and store the product only after it has dried completely. Any remaining moisture, dirt, or dampness on the metal parts may cause rust or degradation.
-
Do not leave submerged in water
Do not soak in water. If the wood absorbs moisture, it may cause expansion, warping, cracking, discoloration, or deterioration of the coating.
-
Avoid dishwashers, high temperatures, and high humidity
Avoid using dishwashers and dish dryers. Store in a dry place away from open flames, direct sunlight, and high temperatures and humidity.
Care Instructions by Product Type
Minimalist Kitchen Knife corebacca
Basic Care
After use, wash with a soft sponge, wipe off moisture, and dry thoroughly.
Blade Care
- Although stainless steel is used, it is not a rust-proof material. Acid, salt, or oil from food can cause rust or discoloration.
- After use, wash with a soft sponge and wipe off moisture.
- If the sharpness dulls, resharpen it.
Handle Care
«Laminated Reinforced Wood Handle»
- This material is more resistant to moisture and deformation than natural wood, but since it uses wood, leaving it wet can cause deterioration and discoloration. After use, wipe off moisture and dirt. If the surface feels dry, apply a thin coat of wood oil or wax as needed.
«Natural Wood Handle»
- As it is a natural material, there are individual differences in wood grain, color, knots, and minor distortions.
- Moisture or excessive dryness can cause cracks, warping, and discoloration.
- After use, immediately wipe off moisture and dirt with a dry cloth.
- When the wood surface appears dry, apply a thin coat of wood oil or wax.
«Multi-Color Handle»
- The surface is protected by urethane coating, but strong impacts or friction may cause the coating to peel or scratch.
- Avoid using abrasive sponges or hard brushes.
- After use, wipe off moisture and dirt with a soft cloth.
- If it is particularly dirty, wipe it with a tightly wrung cloth, then finish with a dry cloth.
- Applying oil or wax is generally not necessary.
Somaé In-flight Meal Cutlery
Basic Care
After use, wash with a soft sponge, wipe off moisture, and then dry.
Care for Metal Parts
- Although the metal parts are made of stainless steel, if moisture, food residue, or oil remains, it may cause rust or discoloration.
- If moisture remains around the wooden handle or screws, it may cause deterioration, discoloration, or loosening.
- After use, wash with a soft sponge and thoroughly wipe off any moisture.
- Especially around the base of the handle and screws, wipe away moisture with a dry cloth and allow it to dry thoroughly in a well-ventilated area.

《Natural Wood Handles》

Somae Japanese Wood Cutting Board
Our cutting boards made from domestic wood are treated with "ceramic coating" to allow the wood grain to breathe.
By impregnating the wood with an inorganic ceramic and glass-based paint that complies with the Food Sanitation Act, we have achieved excellent water repellency, oil repellency, and stain resistance while preserving the rich texture unique to natural wood.
Basic Care: After use, wash with a neutral detergent and a soft sponge, using water or lukewarm water.
After washing, thoroughly wipe off any moisture with a dry cloth and allow it to dry completely in a well-ventilated area. Standing it upright to dry will allow air to circulate easily on both sides.
Things to Avoid: Do not soak for long periods or use a dishwasher, as this may cause deterioration of the coating, warping, or cracking.
Also, avoid storing in places where it will dry out rapidly, such as in direct sunlight or near heating appliances.
When Luster and Water Repellency Fade: At Somaé, we value the time spent cherishing tools. If the surface luster and water repellency have diminished, try applying a thin coat of drying oil such as linseed oil, perilla oil, or walnut oil during your leisure time. After spreading it evenly, wipe off any excess oil thoroughly and dry in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours.
With each repeated care, the wood's character will deepen, becoming a long-lasting tool that reflects the user's time spent with it.
If Fuzziness is a Concern: If the wood surface becomes fuzzy or rough, gently smooth it along the grain with fine-grit sandpaper. Be careful not to over-sand; gently rub only the affected areas a little at a time. After smoothing the surface, wipe off any sanding dust thoroughly and apply a thin coat of drying oil if necessary to finish.
Precautions When Using Drying Oils: Cloths used to wipe off drying oils may spontaneously combust due to oxidation heat if left unattended.
After use, always immerse the cloth thoroughly in water, seal it in a bag or similar while wet, and then dispose of it according to local rules.
